1991: Mercedes-Benz South Africa responded to the HIV and
AIDS pandemic when it adopted its first HIV and AIDS workplace
policy which addressed discrimination in the workplace and identified the importance
of workplace-based awareness and education
1996: The HIV and AIDS workplace policy extensively revised to focus the occupational health services and employee assistance programmes on provision of basic information, education and communication, promotion and distribution of condoms, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, supervised treatment of tuberculosis, counselling and support, and promotion of employee wellness
Sep 1999: MBMed, the closed, corporate medical aid scheme, which extends coverage to all employees and dependants initiated access to prevention and treatment of AIDS-related opportunistic diseases and anti-retroviral treatment for HIV and AIDS - administered through the MEDSCHEME Aid For AIDS Management Programme
Nov 2000: Mercedes-Benz South Africa entered into a three-year long public-private-partnership with the GTZ GmBh of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development - the Mercedes-Benz South Africa / PPP HIV and AIDS Workplace Project (2001-2003). |
