Stuttgart – Daimler Trucks is supporting the people of Haiti, the Caribbean island that has been hard-hit by the recent earthquakes, by promptly sending them 20 FUSO Canter trucks worth over half a million euros. The trucks were handed over to the Haiti aid initiative of former US President Bill Clinton. Clinton had already presented this project last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

SMS hoax aimed at Mercedes-Benz customers

It has come to the attention of Mercedes-Benz South Africa that a 'competition' is running whereby people receive an SMS saying that they have won a Mercedes-Benz car. The SMS states that, before the car is delivered, they must pay $200 for custom fees into a specific account.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa would not provide customer details to other parties and all people receiving such an SMS are advised not to give out any personal information to anyone and to treat the matter as a hoax. Huge donation of toys brings Christmas joy to children

Hundreds of disadvantaged Southern African children will have something to smile about this Christmas when they receive over 85 000 toys donated in a major German charity effort. About 60 000 of the toys will be given to children in South Africa and the remainder to children in Mozambique, at the request of Mrs Graca Machel, wife of ex-President Nelson Mandela. DaimlerChrysler South Africa will facilitate distribution of the toys.

Top Honours for DaimlerChrysler Parts Division

DaimlerChrysler South Africa experienced one of its best sales months in July. The star performer was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which sold a total of 2402 units to make it the top-selling passenger car range in South Africa. This is a new sales record for C-Class in this country, comfortably beating the previous best monthly figure of 1568 units, achieved by the predecessor model in August 1994.

DaimlerChrysler Corporation today confirmed that it had filed suit against General Motors Corporation for appropriating one of the world's most recognizable automobile features in order to enhance the appeal of GM's new Hummer sport utility vehicle. The lawsuit was brought to protect DaimlerChrysler's trademarked Jeep® grille design, which is protected by three federal trademark registrations and has been made famous through over 50 years of use on Jeep vehicles.

Stuttgart/Auburn Hills - Revenues of DaimlerChrysler Group for the full year of 2000 grew by 8 % to - 162.4 bn., calculated on a comparable basis the increase was 12 %.
Operating profit for the full year including one-time effects decreased 11% to - 9.8 bn. while net income increased significantly by 37% to - 7.9 bn. and earnings per share rose from - 5.73 to - 7.87.
The company announced the key financials figures following a Board of Management meeting, at which the financial statements for 2000 were approved.

DCSA CHAIRMAN TAKES OVER AS NEW SACOB PRESIDENT

DCSA Chairman, Christoph Köpke, was elected as the new Sacob (South African Chamber of Business) president at their annual conference in Cape Town. Mr Köpke was the chamber's deputy president and now replaces Judge Mervyn King as the voice of business in South Africa.

Executive message

With an increase of nearly 20% month-on-month in February's national vehicle sales, we are seeing the signs of a recovery in the local automotive sector.

Particularly pleasing for MBSA is the fact that we are, at present, selling the third highest number of cars overall in the country; and in the commercial vehicle market one in every four vehicles sold is one of ours.

We are optimistic that the vehicle market could possibly improve by between +7% and +10% in 2010 compared to last year.

MBSA and its retail and service partners will continue to focus on our strengths - working hard to remain number one in the premium segment for passenger cars and leader in the truck market, whilst rendering a premium service.
