The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate

A personality with all the qualities of a true leader

• Functional: top marks for load capacity and ease of operation
• Safe: nine airbags as standard, plus innovative driver assistance systems
• Comfortable: adaptive damping and self-levelling rear suspension
• Powerful: choice of four engines with more output and lower consumption

Mercedes-Benz is pleased to present the Estate version as another highly distinctive member of the E-Class family. Like the Sedan and Coupé, the Estate, combines unique design, with leadership in safety, comfort, quality and practicality. The new E-Class marks the debut of a number of technical innovations, which no other car in the world, in this category, is able to offer -- from drowsiness detection, to automatic emergency braking when an accident is recognised as imminent, and also Adaptive Highbeam Assist. Naturally the Estate also features all these innovations, plus air suspension with self-levelling at the rear as standard and unique new load compartment management features.

The E-Class Estate is seen as the progenitor of the premium lifestyle estate segment more than 30 years ago. Since the launch of the first Estate in 1977, more than one million customers internationally, have discovered their enthusiasm for this most practical way of driving a Mercedes luxury car. This success story is set to be continued by the fifth generation of the E-Class Estate – following up on the successful launch of the sedan. Only introduced in Europe in April 2009, the E Class sedan had already achieved world-wide market leadership in its segment by May 2009. Some 40 000 new E-Class models have now been delivered to customers.

The performance of the sedan and coupé in the 2009 AutoBild Design Awards shows how well the striking lines of the E-Class have been received: more than 100 000 readers of this German motoring publication recently voted the four-door model the most beautiful car in the world, and gave the two-door model first place in the coupé/cabriolet category.

Executive message

At Mercedes-Benz South Africa we are extremely proud of our latest certification as a BBBEE Level 4 contributor. While we have led the industry overall from the outset, and remain the leader in this respect, we are happy to share this rating now with two other manufacturers.
However, MBSA still sets the benchmark in the most strategic areas of Management Control, Employment Equity and Skills Development.
Our focus on transformation started long before legislation demanded it and therefore we have more experience to implement transformation in such a way to  best benefit all our stakeholders and interest groups.
We believe in challenging ourselves daily to improve on this, wherever we can and in any manner possible.

Dr Hansgeorg Niefer, CEO of MBSA.
