Johannesburg - With the FIFA World Cup™ 2010 only two months away, consumers and football fans are spoilt for choice – to support that is! SMS and signing campaigns are the order of the day and whilst the proverbial iron is hot, Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) is striking back.
After the successful unveiling of the newly-built Bafana Bafana team bus in February, and the announcement of the ‘Driving Bafana Bafana ... get on board’ campaign, MBSA has officially started its national road show.
The Bafana Bafana bus will take to the streets of South Africa in an effort to garner support for the national team ahead of the biggest showpiece this continent has ever hosted. And we don’t want anyone to miss out!
On Wednesday, 17 March, Maponya Mall shoppers welcomed the photo team and queued up to be a part of the support for the team by having their photos taken.
On Thursday, 18 March, students at the University of Johannesburg were thrilled when the official Mercedes-Benz team bus appeared on campus, allowing them to experience first-hand what their team would travel in. Hordes of students lined up to have a photo taken and to sit where their idol could possibly sit when the bus is handed over in just a few short weeks.
The overall tour, which will cover over 4 500km in five weeks, is set to become a favourite with local fans, who are expected to come in droves to see the bus and take part in a photo tool opportunity. Fans will have their pictures taken and superimposed to their desired background, which they get to take home as a souvenir. The fan images will then be saved onto a database, which will form part of the final design to be placed on the bus, ending in a magical image made up of many of the supporting South African faces from around the country.
Mercedes-Benz President and CEO Dr Hansgeorg Niefer and SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe were the first to have their pictures taken at the bus unveiling in Zwartkop in February, which officially marked the beginning of this exciting partnership and support initiative.
To pledge your support for the team and to make sure you don’t miss out, photo opportunities have been earmarked for shopping centres around the country; watch out for the bus in your area:
Gauteng, at Cresta Mall: 23 – 28 March East London, Vincent Park: 30 March – 4 April Cape Town, Canal Walk: 6 – 11 April Durban, Gateway: 13 – 18 April
